3 Robots for a new forge in
Romania.

(click thumbnails for larger pictures)
The
3 robots load the furnace,
descaler, weigher, press and ring mill for a new forge in Romania.
1. The
machines are simple, very robust ( all parts are subjected to Finite
Element and Fatigue Analysis as with our other manipulators ), use
our usual high quality components - double roller spherical bearings
( i.e. no bushes – except for the grippers that go 4500 mm into a
furnace), stainless steel oil tanks, Duesterloh motors, Siemens PLC,
etc.

August 2008 - Aluminium Smelting Robot

Clansman Dynamics
has just completed final factory acceptance tests on a new robot for
the automation of anode handling in an Aluminium Smelter.
Designed
and built in Clansman Dynamics Scottish factory, the robot is
presented with six spent anodes via an automated trolley system,
unlatching and removing each in turn; it places the used and
unbalanced anode into a monorail system for transport to the anode
plant for further processing. The now
re-conditioned
and highly unbalanced anodes weighing 1 tonne are delivered to the
robot by the same monorail system for loading back on to the now
empty trolley. The entire process is designed to take less than 7
minutes from receipt of a trolley with six spent anodes to the
trolley being reloaded and despatched back to the smelter.
Handling
the anodes requires precision but more importantly the ability to
grip and repeatedly manoeuvre the anode without causing damage to
the conductive surface. The robot achieves this using high precision
articulated grippers and achieves repeatability better than ±1mm
over a 9 meter operating range.
Clansman Dynamics
used proven design technology to develop the robot, the first of it
type, after being awarded the contract by one of the world’s largest
aluminium smelting companies.
